This year’s busy bee was meant to start with a Club camp out on Saturday 22 up at Kaarakin. After rescuing the bogged driver, we continued on our way west bound to the sand pit. The track varied from black soft sand to the white softer deeper sand. As always, getting the Triton dirty is essential, although at the moment it seems that the dirt on it is left over from trips last year. Hopefully you managed to squeeze in some sort of break over the holiday season and got some much needed R&R. It’s hard to believe as I write this that we are already halfway through January, before you know it you will be wishing for another getaway and that is where being part of the club is great.

This was a recce to gain some ideas for a future trip and as an alternative route to Mt Dale or the beginning of an off bitumen route to Albany. A faded sign that read “ Road past this point is non-trafficable during Winter ” promised challenges given our recent rain. However, the track appeared largely unused and just had pools of water across the track. Most of the ruts were axle deep with hard gravel bottoms except the last one.
