Breton Bay
29 December 2019 Overnighter Participants: Dave F. - 120 series Prado, Gary - 80 series Land Cruiser, Shane and Brandon - MR Triton, Sean and Deb - Nissan MQ Triton With a terminally ill gearbox, Brandon's Jimny stayed home and he hitched a ride with Shane who graciously picked Brandon up from home. Shane's day got off to a great start putting his wire joining skills to work, reconnecting the power lead to his fridge after it was severed by the fridge slide. The new MR Trito

Box trailer for off-road
The upcoming trip to Breton Bay will be the first time I have towed a trailer behind the Triton off-road; the trailer for this trip simply being my 6x4 box trailer. Some minor modifications were made that included the toughest LT tyre I could get for its 14 inch rims, and a Tregg hitch. The hitch is by far the most important mod', as a standard 50mm ball hitch simply doesn't have the range of movement needed negotiating any sort of trail with steep ramp over angles and cross

Wellington Dam
Cover images from the club magazine, January 2016 With quite a few new members in the club, an insight into the post-Christmas trip to Wellington Dam follows. This trip report was written for the club trip there 4 years ago, and was published in the January 2016 issue of the club magazine. Not in the magazine back then are some links to a couple of videos. One being Rogers Hill, and the other, me, towing a Follow Me camper out. Sean, Ed'. Wellington Dam Trip 26 December 2015

White Hill Beach Fishing
Dave's spot on the beach Participants: Dave F (Trip Leader) - Mitsubishi Prado; Matt and Alyssa - Mitsubishi Pajero; Shane - Mitsubishi Triton; Sean, Deb and Luke - Mitsubishi Triton As with any White Hill Beach trip, the meeting point was the Miami Bakehouse at Falcon for good coffee, and anything else from a bakery that might be needed for a morning recharge or lunch later in the day. Recharge more likely today, as a meet up time of 7am meant a much earlier start for Deb a

A word from... The President
G’day everyone, Whoa, where did the year go? I am sure I’m not alone in wondering if time really can fly; hopefully all our members have taken the time to do something positive this year and as 2020 comes in they can look forward to more good times. As a club I would like to think the past year has met our members’ needs and we can continue to build on what it is that we do. We certainly have had a lot of events/outings over the last twelve months, and looking forward on the

Early this year, we lost the use of a printer in a local organisation after a restructure, and since then the magazine has been distributed to members in a PDF format only. Richard has extended distribution via email through the wider WA4WDA community. Throughout the entire year, Jon and Sue have been putting in a huge effort to get a new club website up and running, delayed at one point by a server crash, however their perseverance has resulted in this fabulous new look webs

4WD and Adventure Show
A big thank you to every member who was able to come along and volunteer to help run the Test Track at the 4WD Show for the WA4WDA this weekend (8th to 10th Nov’). You certainly made a long weekend a heap of fun for me and I hope enjoyed it as well. Richard C. 2019 4WD & Adventure Show - Volunteer Information
Firstly, a big thank you for volunteering your valuable time to help out this weekend with the running of the Test Track at the 4WD Show. Where is the test track this year? The test track this year is just a bit further up from where it was last year, the best bet is to access via Taylor Street off Canning Highway . Where can I park? Parking as usual will fill up fast , but it does extend up towards the Causeway and I believe there will be an exit from the parking heading wes

Like Richard, it’s been a couple of months since I have had to put some thoughts in print. As Richard has already mentioned, the more members who get actively involved, the more diverse the activities that are run can be; this sentiment runs true too as much for content in the calendar as it does for content in our club magazine. Getting involved On getting involved, as the calendar identifies, the number of future trips thins out, however the last trip planning meeting on th

A word from...the President | Aug-Sept 2019
G’day everyone, Been a while since I’ve had to write one of these, so here goes. As you should be aware we had our AGM last month and for the most part the previous committee was voted back in. Hopefully this is to the members liking, but one thing that worries me is that we do not have fresh blood coming through and which is vital to keep the club motivated. So if you have any inkling to getting more involved in your club, please feel free to chat to any of the committee mem

Kaarakin Busy Bee 2019 - Part 1
This year’s busy bee was meant to start with a Club camp out on Saturday 22 up at Kaarakin. Alas with a forecast of freezing temperatures and massive storms that were to include torrential rain, the camp out was (unsurprisingly) cancelled. The weather in no way stopped us turning up on Sunday, albeit a bit lighter on in numbers than anticipated. Our industrious busy bee crew that braved the elements! Footpaths all over the Kaarakin were rolling with neck breaking honkey nut

Kaarakin Busy Bee 2019 – Part 2
Read Part 1 of the Kaarakin Busy Bee 2019 here. Meanwhile, back at the ranch... ...the raking had finished up.... So we decided it was about time for smoko! Smoko up at Kaarakin Playing with poultry Our next task was to clean out one of several chicken/turkey/geese coops, after traipsing through a lot of mud. I think the blokes were peeved they didn’t have their cars for this bit! Some of us got a few back and forwards trips on the back of the little ute though …and also got

Gliding
Date: 10 February 2019 Front seat passenger list: Dave F Shannon C Sean F Deb B Not the typical outing for an avid group of 4WD enthusiasts. Dave however, has always had an interest in flying small powered aircraft. After some flying he did in New Zealand last December, he put up the idea of trying out gliding instead. Photo taken by Deb, showing the glider in a climb. The airspeed was a very modest 40 knots - which in almost every aircraft with an engine, is falling out o

Ladies training day - Part 2
After rescuing the bogged driver, we continued on our way west bound to the sand pit. The track varied from black soft sand to the white softer deeper sand. Gentle pressure on the right pedal got everyone through to the limestone track where we stopped in the shade of the pines and discussed recovery techniques and changing tyres off road. The group checked tyre pressures and discovered that the 20 minute drive west had increased vehicle tyre pressures, an important point to

As always, getting the Triton dirty is essential, although at the moment it seems that the dirt on it is left over from trips last year. As a FIFO the benefit with an even time roster is a lot of time at home, the catch sometimes you have to be at work when you’d rather not be, and Christmas last year was spent amidst a heat wave exceeding a week of days none less than 43 degrees a long way from home. A world away from central Australia here in the west, the best trip post Ch

Erik trying to work out what is growing on my face! G’day Everyone, Happy New Year, I trust that everyone had a good Christmas and had some quality time with family & loved ones. Hopefully you managed to squeeze in some sort of break over the holiday season and got some much needed R&R. It’s hard to believe as I write this that we are already halfway through January, before you know it you will be wishing for another getaway and that is where being part of the club is great.
