Lake Indoon – the Wildflower Wonderland

Jumping out of bed to get an early start, we packed the camper trailer and car and headed off to Jurien Bay where we were meeting Don and Jane for a 9.30 start. After grabbing a pie to eat, I gave the brief overview of the weekend's planned activities, and we continued our journey to our secret camping spot north of Lake Indoon.
Arriving at the turn off to our location, we aired down. The colour down the track was bright yellow from the wattle bush. We continued down the track (avoiding the goats) until we came across a winter lake and decided to stop to see if we could find any of the wildflowers. We were very fortunate to find two different spider orchids, cowslip orchids, lemon scented sun orchids to name a few and various other wildflowers (and of course a blue tongue lizard which decided to use Simon as a toilet and pee’d all over him). We also found a big pile of pre-cut wood amongst the flowers which we claimed for our fire that night. Poor Don and Simon had the job of loading the wood on the back of the campers, while Jane and I sat back and supervised.
We finally arrived at our secret location and set up camp, after a quick bite and cuppa we all jumped into our vehicles to find the cave. We came across the turnoff, and this should have been our clue not to drive down there as it was very overgrown, but alas we did. With a few new scratches down our vehicles, we came across the cave. I jumped out to have a look, and boom was attacked by a bee which managed to get stuck in my hair. Apparently with my kiwi accent everyone thought I was saying ear not hair!!! Eventually the bee was rescued and Simon decided to head down to the cave. Don, Jane and I stayed up at the top and waiting – checking the bee situation before our decent, next minute, Simon is doing the hands in the air dance and climbing with speed up the side of the cliff. 39 bee stings later, as a group, we decided not to visit the cave and go for a drive exploring the area instead. Must admit,,,,, ‘wish we saw this sign earlier’ 🤣
On our return to the campsite, we lit the fire, cooked dinner, sat down and told stories before heading off to bed.
The next morning, we packed up and started to make our way back to Perth. Taking a different route to explore, Simon decided to go down a different track and managed to get bogged in sand. Letting the tires down a bit more to 15psi and not needing any help from Don (he was so proud of that 😂) and as he says ”If anyone can,,, the ‘Cannon’ can” we continued our journey home. Thanks Don and Jane for an awesome night away from the busy city life.
