Harvey - and Some Mud

The meeting point was the bakery in Harvey. It has good coffee, good food and good parking. The group was an ideal size for a recci.
My focus for the day was to drive on as many different tracks as possible and to revisit the track with a tree that we were unable move last time.
We started off with a challenging decent down hill via rocky drop offs (no broken CVs today). The track its self has become more eroded since our last visit. Due to the recent rain its was muddier as well.
This area is usually pretty wet and lived up to that expectation. Most of the tracks attempted we were able to get through. We did conclude in a couple places that it was going be very difficult to get through and in one very muddy section we backed out off. The last track we tried was where I became bogged on an earlier trip. Roger, Sean and I spent 3 hours digging and winching me out and I was not keen to repeat that experience.
At the end of the day, we went and looked at the track with tree blocking it. On our previous trip it was here I snapped the winch cable trying unsuccessfully to move the tree. Somebody else had finished the job. As we ventured further down the track, we found two other fallen trees that will require clearing on another day. We finished the day’s driving, pumped up tyres and headed home.
Somebody said to me for every hour of mud driving expect to spend the same amount of time cleaning the vehicle. In this case it is very true. There are copious amounts of sticky mud wedged into every nook under the Patrol. I arrived home with squeaky brakes.
