Attendees:

Wayne  – Nissan GU patrol

Sandie  – Passenger and Navigator with Wayne

Dave – 2024 Toyota 4.5L V8 diesel Landcruiser troop carrier

Luke and his 7yr old son Ellisha – 2021 Toyota Fortuner 2.8L 4cyl diesel

We left camp at Chittering Acres under grey skies and travelled east to Julimar State Forest.

Airing down to 20psi we trundled along the winding track through a forest setting seeking the playground on the flats running through Julimar.

Our first challenge of the day was a water crossing about a foot deep and looking a bit soft.  The two visitors took up the challenge to conquer the water course. Luke in his Fortuner used a bit of momentum to traverse the water course and made it to the other side whilst shrouding his vehicle in mud.

However, Dave in his Toyota Landcruiser sank within the first 3 feet of entering the water, locking himself in the mud with leaf springs and an anchored diff. Wayne and his Nissan to the rescue and a winch out backwards for Dave!!!

We travelled along Julimar Creek to the playground nestled between two ridges in the heart of the state forest.  Here we managed to crisscross a number of creek crossings of sandy clays to navigate up and down numerous steep gravel tracks sporting wash-outs and wombat holes, nothing a LSD or rear locker couldn’t handle when required.

Whilst on the flats of the playground we chatted to a family group who had been playing in the water filled holes on the flats, one of the boys had coated his alternator in mud and it had stopped working – heads up for new players, mud coated alternators will fail if mud infiltrates its workings.

After completing a number of challenges through the ridges we headed out to the bitumen on where we aired up. We made our way back to camp at Chittering Acres.

Our two visitors who both have a history of 4wding accepted every challenge set before them and enjoyed their day, as did Wayne and I. They will both be experiencing the gift of mud that ‘keeps on giving’ from Julimar for the next week or two, or three or…………
